That’s a very common question that raises among beginners who are thinking to use steroids.
First off, most of the users do not take part in any competition, nor do they have the intention. Therefore we may refer to them as “recreational users”, whether you like it or not, the majority of the users is represented by these people. People approaching this side of the medal with the intent to improve their physical condition for non agonistic purposes. This is the category this article is targeting.
It’s different for those who aim to compete. As some may already know, it might become necessary to give up your libido when close to competing, as the excessive suppression of estrogens, which is needed in order to achieve an extreme level of definition and reduce water retention to the minimum, has a negative impact on libido too, but I will explain that in detail on a later article. As many know, sacrifice is part of the game in bodybuilding.
If you have no intention to compete, you should pursue for an enhanced physical performances as well as an enhanced sexual life and general well-being.
Secondly, libido is a complex mechanism that involves many more variables than just the hormonal aspect. It’s not unusual to score low testosterone levels on your blood work even though you’re having sex many times a day. A big role is certainly played by the psychological situation of the individual, although I may not be the right person to talk about certain topics in depth. So let’s stick to the hormonal situation for now.
As said before, estrogens may often be a cause of a decrease in libido. If they’re too high or they’re too low your sexual life will be compromised.
Another class of compounds that may interfere with your libido includes 19-nor-testosterones. 19-nor like deca (nandrolone) and trenbolone are known to have a great progestinic activity. Such compounds are responsible for raising prolactin levels on men. Prolactin is another hormone, not completely related to estrogens that has a strong negative impact on men’s sexual desire and their erections. It’s therefore very important to control the levels of this hormone. There are certain drugs, acting as agonist of the dopaminergic receptor that can inhibit its production reducing it sensibly. Although it is only advised to use such drugs only when needed, as their side effects can turn out to be worse than a missed erection. Alternatively vitamin B6 has been proven to be a rather effective method to mildly control prolactin. It is very important to avoid running nandrolone and trenbolone at high dosages on their first use to assess one’s tolerance and reaction to their progestinic action and prolactin increase, as they may cause severe problems to your libido, hence the “deca-dick”.
Another common mistake that can lead to a poor libido is the absence of testosterone in a cycle. Testosterone is the “male hormone”. There’s no better compound that can replace its primary tasks in a man’s body. With the introduction of other androgen steroids the man’s body will soon shut down the production of testosterone, compromising some mechanisms that regulate a man’s balance. In order to guarantee a certain level of wellbeing during any cycle it is necessary to introduce a certain dosage or of testosterone. Of course, you may get that dude saying that he’s always run cycle without testosterone and never had any problem of any sort, that’s very likely that his UG gear was indeed containing testosterone, as it’s a cheap and easy molecule to make, therefore largely used by UG labs to fake many other expensive compounds. And obviously average dudes don’t have any clue on spotting the differences between the effects of certain compounds in the body.
Having said that, I repeat myself, if you don’t have any intention of getting on stage, a steroid cycle should aim to a higher standard of general wellbeing and an improved sexual life. If you do not feel that way whilst you’re on a cycle then you must be doing something wrong.
I don’t see how you can fully enjoy a huge and shredded body if your mood is always down and so is your penis. Masculinity and wellbeing come first.
